Success Stories:

"With the FIT FOR PLAY one-on-one therapy approach, I was able to gain a better understanding of how to deal with my back pain on a daily basis. At NO time did my PT say do this exercise and I'll be back in 10 minutes, like most places do. It was a great experience to receive such professional care."

Lymphedema Treatment

What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema occurs when the lymphatic system cannot remove excess fluid in the body resulting in fluid retention. In primary lymphedema, the cause is a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system (birth defect) where the swelling is often preceded by trauma or a life change. With secondary lymphedema, the lymphatic system is damaged by either trauma, surgery, radiation etc… leading to swelling.

Indications for Lymphedema Treatment
lymphedema afterlymphedema before * Lymphedema
* Chronic Venous Insufficiency
* Post-Surgical Swelling
* Post-Traumatic Swelling
* Migraine Headaches

Components of Lymphedema Treatment
* Manual Lymph Drainage - rhythmic manual technique used to stimulate the lymph flow
* Compression Therapy - Specific compression wraps are used during the therapy phase to further reduce edema. Following successful limb reduction, patients are fitted for a compression garment.
* Exercise - Patients complete exercises designed to use muscles that facilitate lymph flow while they are wearing their compression bandages or garment.
* Skin Care - Because lymphedema can be exacerbated by damage to the skin and lymphedema increases the risk of infection, it is important to educate patients about meticulous skin care.
